today was a very relaxed sunday. the sun was out, but for the majority of the day hid behind the passing clouds. it was also very unusually windy (what am i saying unusually for?? it is usually windy here in can't-make-up-it's-mind-about-the-weather holland), which made me feel a little better about spending most of the day in my room in my pajamas. i went to bed rather late last night, so i ended up waking up around 10 instead of the time my usual body sleep timer allows me- which unfortunately makes sure i'm up around 7 (or if i'm lucky, 8). shortly after jumping into a big bowl of the ever so yummy generic cheerios, i watched the movie the jane austen book club. i actually think i had seen it once before, but i definitely enjoyed it even if it was the second time around! it made me want to read all the jane austen books which i think i will take up once i get back to the states.
after i finished the movie i had an urge to read.. and since i've finished all the books i own here, i decided to look up online if i could find a good one to read for free. i remember having heard rave reviews about the book the fault in our stars and decided i'd go with that one.
here's the premise: "despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. but when a patient named augustus waters suddenly appears at cancer kid support group, hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten."
i found a free version onling pretty easily and started reading away. i just love books that you don't want to put down, or in my case turn off, and this was absolutely one of them. clicking through each page (this is where i wish i had the actual hard copy - i love flipping through pages) until i made it all the way to the end! yes i finished a book in just one sitting! keep in mind i had nothing on my agenda today so my whole day was wide open to whatever decided to come my way, and it just so happened to be this great book. i have a feeling it's more for the younger generation (young love at it's best) although everyone can relate in some way. the way it was written just made it flow so effortlessly. one of my favorite quotes from the book (which i had in fact heard before but never knew it came from this book) was "i fell in love the way you fall asleep- slowly, and then all at once." so beautiful! i suggest anyone who loves a good book, and more specifically loves a good love story, to read this one. it definitely was a pleasure and a great way to spend my sunday afternoon.
p.s. they're currently making this book into a movie - cannot wait!
xoxo
